Dr Nicola Veronese wins ESCEO-IOF Pierre Meunier Young Scientist Award
The European Society for Clinical and Economic Aspects of Osteoporosis, Osteoarthritis and Musculoskeletal Diseases (ESCEO) and the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) have awarded the ESCEO-IOF Pierre Meunier Young Scientist Award to Dr Nicola Veronese of the University of Palermo. The Award was presented on August 27th at a special session of the virtual WCO-IOF-ESCEO 2021, the largest global Congress in the bone, muscle and joint field.
Presented annually, the ESCEO-IOF Pierre Meunier Young Scientist Award recognizes young investigators who have demonstrated outstanding scientific merit early in their careers, prior to reaching a prominent academic position, and who are expected to be future thought-leaders in the musculoskeletal field.
Professor Jean-Yves Reginster, ESCEO President and Congress Co-Chair noted:
“It is a great pleasure to present this prestigious award to such an outstanding young investigator. Early in his career, Dr Veronese has made important contributions to research in the epidemiology of frailty, osteoarthritis and related geriatric disorders and chronic conditions. He is a highly valued member of the ESCEO Scientific Advisory Board, and we look forward to his many future research contributions to the geriatric and musculoskeletal fields.”
Dr Nicola Veronese, MD, is Assistant Professor and Senior Researcher at the University of Palermo, Health Promotion, Maternal and Child Health, and Internal Medicine and Specialty of Excellence "G. D'Alessandro". After obtaining his medical degree in 2008, Dr Veronese attended the School of Geriatric Medicine. He is the author of more than 450 articles, primarily on the epidemiology of musculoskeletal diseases in older adults, which have been published in international, peer-reviewed journals. He is on the ESCEO Scientific Advisory Board and is a member/director of scientific committees of several national and international societies in the field of geriatric medicine.
