The National Osteoporosis Foundation of South Africa (NOFSA) marked World Osteoporosis Day (WOD) 2025 with a dynamic series of initiatives aimed at raising national awareness about bone health and osteoporosis. The activities combined digital engagement, media outreach, and community participation to strengthen NOFSA’s impact across the country.
In its digital campaign, NOFSA shared the official WOD 2025 themed assets and messaging across Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, and its website. Select posts were tailored with localised messaging to encourage screening, promote bone-healthy lifestyle choices, and highlight the South African context. Consistent branding and clear calls-to-action helped maximise audience reach and engagement.
Beyond digital efforts, NOFSA extended its message through media and public relations. An official WOD 2025 press release was distributed to key print and online outlets, positioning the foundation as a trusted voice on bone health and reinforcing its leadership in national advocacy and education. More details on the press release can be found here.
Community engagement was brought to life with a World Osteoporosis Day Fun Run at Groot Constantia on November 1st, 2025. Attracting over 200 participants, the event promoted physical activity as a cornerstone of osteoporosis prevention and management. Educational touchpoints encouraged attendees to “know their risk” and take proactive steps to protect their bone health.
Overall, NOFSA’s 2025 WOD initiatives successfully combined digital outreach, media engagement, and on-the-ground activities, raising the profile of osteoporosis in South Africa and reinforcing the importance of early risk assessment. The International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) congratulates NOFSA, our valued member society, for its outstanding efforts in promoting bone health and awareness!
