Professor Nicholas Harvey, Director of the MRC Lifecourse Epidemiology Centre, University of Southampton, UK and Chair of the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) Committee of Scientific Advisors, has been awarded the prestigious 2023 Ortomed Medal.
The Award was presented by OrtoMed Executive Director Professor Maria Luisa Brandi on November 30th, during the XVIII OrtoMed Congress held in Florence, Italy.
OrtoMed (The Italian Society of Orthopaedics, Medicine and Rare Skeletal Diseases) was created with the aim of supporting scientific research that bridges the gap between metabolic bone diseases and the orthopaedic field. Every year the Ortomed Medal is awarded to a leading expert whose efforts and collaborative vision have supported shared knowledge between orthopaedists and specialists in metabolic bone diseases, with the ultimate aim of achieving better outcomes for patients.
At the Congress, Professor Harvey presented a lecture in which he described the extensive work undertaken by the IOF in its mission to achieve a world without fragility fractures. He said, "I am greatly honoured to receive this prestigious award, which reflects the hard work and excellence of many individuals across the MRC LEC, University of Southampton, the IOF and wider collaborations.”
