There is growing evidence that preventing osteoporotic fractures through anti-osteoporosis medications, secondary fracture prevention and screening programs is cost-effective. Moreover, cost-effectiveness analyses have been used to establish or validate intervention thresholds.
In this webinar, our speaker Prof. Mickaël Hiligsmann, with moderator Prof. Belinda Beck, will provide an overview of how osteoporosis and fragility fractures impact healthcare systems financially, highlighting both key cost drivers and the potential benefits of prevention.
Building on the growing evidence of cost-effectiveness, Prof. Hiligsmann will present findings from health economics studies that make a strong case for investment in primary and secondary fracture prevention, particularly through Fracture Liaison Services (FLS). This webinar is designed to equip healthcare professionals, policy advocates, and decision-makers with the economic evidence needed to champion fracture prevention within healthcare settings and in
national health agendas.
Learning Objectives
• Understand the global economic burden of osteoporosis and fragility fractures.
• Identify the main healthcare cost drivers associated with osteoporotic fractures.
• Recognize the economic rationale for investing in secondary fra cture prevention, particularly through FLS.
• Understand the value and cost-effectiveness of screening programs in primary fracture prevention.
• Learn how cost-effectiveness analyses for FLS and screening programs are constructed
• Translate health economic evidence into persuasive arguments for policymakers and healthcare funders.
