Multimorbidity – the presence of two or more chronic conditions in the same individual – is highly prevalent among older adults who sustain a fracture and is associated with excess mortality. Yet, in this population, fracture risk is often underestimated and underprioritised, crowded out by competing health concerns.

In this one-hour webinar, Prof Blank will review ways of quantifying refracture risk across different multimorbidity clusters and fracture sites, so that high-risk individuals can be identified. He will show that multimorbidity does not attenuate refracture risk; instead, it heightens vulnerability among older fracture patients, even in the presence of the competing risk of mortality.

Participants will come away with a clearer view of why timely, targeted secondary fracture prevention is needed – particularly following non-hip, non-vertebral fractures.
